Head Legal and Company Secretariat
Mr. Ofetotse is the Head of Legal and Board Secretariat, a role he assumed in September 2018. Prior to his assumption to head the division, Mr. Ofetotse had been serving in acting capacity since April 2017. In his capacity at BDC, Mr. Ofetotse's mandate is to provide Legal and Company Secretarial services to the Corporation, the Board and its Constituent Sub-Committees, and monitor adherence to international standards of Corporate Governance in order to protect the integrity of BDC. He has brought to the Corporation a wealth of expertise on the back of extensive legal practice in previous roles as a senior attorney and legal advisor in both public and private institutions over the span of his impressive career journey.
Gilbert holds a Bachelor of Laws (LLB) degree from the University of Botswana and a Diploma in Air Law from the IATA Institute of Training and Development and has completed the Management Advanced Programme with the Wits Business School. He is an Attorney, Notary Public and Conveyancer and is admitted to practice in the High Court of the Republic of Botswana.
Gilbert has extensive experience in commercial and corporate law, having previously practiced with the law firms Kgalemang & Associates and Rahim Khan & Company. He also had a stint in the Attorney General's Chambers as State Counsel.
As part of the ILFA programme, he had the opportunity to briefly work in a global legal firm at the London office of White & Case LLP. His experience ranges from litigation, the negotiation and formulation of agreements including the accompanying security documents and legal advise on statutory regulation, governance, tax, compliance, procurement and other policy issues.
