The Board of Botswana Development Corporation (BDC) is pleased to announce the appointment of Mr. Oteng Keabetswe as the Corporation’s substantive Managing Director, effective 1 February 2026. He has been serving as Caretaker Managing Director since August 2025. Mr. Keabetswe’s appointment marks the culmination of a six-month caretaker period during which he provided steady leadership and strategic direction to the Corporation. The appointment reflects the Board’s confidence in his leadership acumen, strategic judgement, and demonstrated ability to advance BDC’s mandate as Botswana’s leading investment and development finance institution. During his tenure as Caretaker Managing Director, he led a deliberate strategic repositioning of BDC towards becoming a more impact-driven, catalytic investment company, anchored by large-scale projects designed to deliver measurable economic and social returns. Under his leadership, the Corporation strengthened its focus on transformative investments aligned to national development priorities and long-term economic competitiveness.
Notably, Mr Keabetswe oversaw the establishment of the Unity Healthcare Botswana Partnership Fund, a targeted response to national shortages of essential medicines and healthcare supplies, designed to strengthen local supply chains and health security. He further led the execution of over P600 million capital recycling transactions, unlocking capital from mature industries and non-strategic assets for redeployment into higher-impact domestic investments. Over the same period, BDC deployed USD 10 million to Letshego Holdings through an impact facility structured to expand inclusive finance, programme lending and enterprise development. Under Mr Keabetswe’s leadership, BDC will remain firmly focused on investments that elevate private-sector development, enable transformative industry-level interventions, and strengthen Botswana’s long-term economic resilience & competitiveness.
